Present and future archaeology

Contemporary ceramics

Imagine standing in front of an archaeological excavation rich in artefacts capable of evoking distant worlds, with that mysterious charm that leaves your heart suspended and your mind reflecting. Antonio Taschini’s works of art fit perfectly into this scenario. We discussed this with the artist during an interview on the Terrarium bench, exploring the creative process behind his intense and refined work.

A journey between past and present

The son of an architect and grandson of an archaeologist, Taschini has been immersed in an atmosphere of ancient forms and classical references since childhood. Two worlds coexist in his work, as he himself points out on his website: geometry, linked to deconstructed architectural forms, and archetypal figuration that recounts life cycles and the archaeology of the future.

I incorporate contemporary symbols such as barcodes and QR codes into my sculptures.

Contemporary symbols with an ancient twist

His sculptures are constellations of fragments, where barcodes, QR codes and logos intertwine with classical images. ‘The whole gives too many answers, the fragments create questions,’ explains Taschini, who wants to open up spaces for reflection in the viewer.

The charm of the past, from the Roman world to the Nuragic civilisation, is lost in the mists of time, transforming into something undefined and suspended. Taschini’s works become armour for the soul, symbols of human strength, identity and fragility.

A counter-utopia with an antique flavour

Welcoming Taschini and reflecting on his counter-utopia was an intense and stimulating experience for us. It was an opportunity to show how art can transform the past from simple nostalgia into a valuable resource for creating new visions and directions of meaning.

If you are interested in this approach, let us know! We are curious to hear your opinions and questions about this creative journey.
