On Sunday 17 May, from 3 pm to 6 pm, Terrarium will host artist Rebecca Agnes for a free workshop dedicated to her new project, “The Re-enchanted Forest”. The initiative invites the public to take part in a simple, symbolic gesture: drawing small paper trees that become part of a collective ritual of remembrance, gratitude and farewell.
“The Re-enchanted Forest” is part of the INSIEME PER IL BOSCO (TOGETHER FOR THE WOODS) project, conceived by FARE and the Legambiente “Laura Conti” Circle of Seveso, with the support of the Lombardy Region and the municipalities of Seveso and Meda.
A project to commemorate the Oak Wood
The workshop takes its cue from the Seveso disaster, which occurred on 10 July 1976 at the ICMESA factory, when a cloud of dioxin was released, contaminating a large area between Meda, Seveso, Cesano Maderno and Desio, with profound consequences for people, animals and the landscape. In the years that followed, two large containment basins were built for the soil and toxic debris. The Bosco delle Querce was then established on those very sites, opening to the public in 1996 and, over time, becoming a place of ecological and social rebirth.
3,200 paper trees
The workshop conceived by Rebecca Agnes invites participants to create 3,200 cut-out paper trees, one for each tree estimated to be felled. The artistic project then becomes a collective ritual to remember the trees that have inhabited the woodland until now, to thank them for their contribution to the life of the landscape and, symbolically, to bid them farewell. A simple gesture, yet one capable of transforming into a shared presence, care and testimony.
The final moment at Bosco delle Querce
All the collected paper trees will then be taken to the Bosco delle Querce in Seveso and Meda on 24 May 2026. With “Il bosco reincantato”, Terrarium offers an opportunity to engage with art as a participatory practice, capable of combining creative expression, environmental awareness and shared responsibility.
